D6SN Week Eight Rankings

5/6  A

1. Bishop Guilfoyle 7-0 @ Bishop McCort

Guilfoyle rolled past Cambria Heights no problem with a 42-0 route. The Maruaders have been very impressive all season long, and they find themselves ranked among the top teams in the state. They should make the move to 8-0 with no problem against McCort this week.

2. Portage 7-0 @ Meyersdale

The Mustangs just dominated Conemaugh Township last week by a score of 63-0. Perhaps the craziest stat of the game Friday, Caleb Kephart had SIX carries for 269 yards. That's 44 yards a carry, unbelievable performance.  Kephart and company will need their A game against a tough 6-1 Meyersdale team this week. Big game for both sides.

3. Blairsville 7-0 @ Saltsburg

Blairsville went through their toughest two tests in the Heritage in the past two weeks, and outscored Homer Center and Penns Manor 76-16.  The preseason favorites have lived up the billing, and with Saltsburg and United in the next two weeks, the Bobcats could be 9-0 heading into an inter-dictrict showdown with Redbank Valley.

4. Bellwood-Antis 5-2 @ Northern Bedford

Bellwood looked like they were in a battle with Southern Huntingdon, but with the game tied at 14 the Blue Devils scored the game's final 28 points to get the final to 42-14.  The Blue Devils are clearly class A's best two loss team, and they may be able to close out the year with these next three games and finish 8-2 heading into the postseason.

5. Berlin 6-1 @ Conemaugh Valley

Berlin scored a big victory over Meyersdale last week, and it vaults them back into the rankings. The Mountaineers have a road game with Conemaugh Valley this week, and they should be moving to 7-1.

5/6 AA

1. Mt. Union  7-0  @ West Branch

Mt. Union now leapfrogs Tyrone into the top spot of the rankings. The Trojans handled a pretty good Everett team on Friday, and should keep it rolling against West Branch on Friday.  Mt. Union has been very good this year, and I don't think we need to call into question the validity of this team any longer. I believe they can play with and beat anyone.

2. Bedford 6-1  Bishop Carroll

I slid Bedford into the number two spot.  The only loss they have this season is to a very good Somerset team, and they have been very good other than that game They welcome a win-less Bishop Carroll team to town this week with the likelihood of moving to 7-1.

3. Tyrone 6-1 Central Mountain

Tyrone drops out of the top spot with a loss to Clearfield. Clearfield is not a bad loss, but enough to question Tyrone a little bit.  They have a tough one this week against a AAAA team Central Mountain. Despite their poor record, Central Mountain could provide a difficult game with their size.

4. Chestnut Ridge 6-1  Penns Valley

Chestnut Ridge continued their strong season with a 52-16 romp of Saint Joseph's Academy. They will look to keep it going this week against a 2-5 Penns Valley squad.

5. Central  5-2  @ Bellefonte

Central cruised past Philipsburg-Osceola this week 40-7. The Dragons will look to move to 6-2 this week against Bellefonte.  The schedule sets up nicely for Central in these final three weeks. and they could make a move up the standings.

5-6-8-9 AAA

1. Somerset 7-0 Cambria Heights

Somerset notched a win against Bishop McCort for the third consecutive year and moved to 7-0 while doing so.  The Golden Eagles have established themselves a serious force to be reckoned with, and could be poised for a big postseason run.

2. Clearfield 5-2 @ Bald Eagle

Clearfield runs to the number two spot with a very big win against Tyrone on the road.  The Bison finally look to be hitting their stride, and should move to 6-2 this week against a two win Bald Eagle squad.

3. Johnstown 5-2 Forest Hills

Johnstown sturggled for a good portion of the game with Westmont, but eventually blew past the Hilltoppers. Johnstown has some very big games in the upcoming weeks, and if they have postseason plans in the competitive AAA playoff race, they need to take down Forest Hills this week.
