D6SN Week Ten Rankings

D 5/6 A

1. Bishop Guilfoyle 9-0 @ Somerset

The game of the year is finally upon us. Back in August, many of us pointed to week ten and circled our calenders for the BG-Somerset game with a chance both teams would be 9-0 heading into the contest, and it actually worked out that way. Bishop Guilfoyle needs this win to lock down the top seed in the district playoffs, and a loss could send them to being a three seed.

2. Portage 9-0 Berlin

Portage handled Conemaugh Valley to move to 9-0 this past Friday. It now sets up a rematch with Berlin for the WestPac title. Portage used a big fourth quarter the first time the two teams met to run away with it 38-27. It will be very difficult to beat a good team twice in a season, but you have to like Portage's chances at home.

3. Blairsville 9-0 Redbank Valley

Blairsville easily dispatched United 49-13 to finish at 8-0 in the Heritage Conference, winning the league outright. They will be tested this week with a good district nine, Redbank Valley team coming to town.  The are sitting on a 7-1 record with their lone loss was in a 58-46 shootout with Clarion last week.

4. Berlin 8-1 @ Portage

Since that Portage loss, the Mountaineers have surrendered just 12 points in the past five games.  With a strong defense and that speedy offense, the are a dangerous team going into the rematch with the Mustangs.

5. Bellwood-Antis 7-2 Philipsburg-Osceola

With the exception of the Tyrone and Mt. Union losses, Bellwood has handled everyone else. Most of us expected Bellwood to be where they are at this point, and that's a team flying under the radar a bit, but one that is very dangerous. They should be able to handle Philipsburg this week.

D 5/6 AA

1. Mt. Union 9-0 Penns Valley

Mt. Union slipped by a very good Tussey Mountain team last week 44-41. It was one of the few close calls the Trojans have had this year, but sometimes a close game before the playoffs can be a good thing. They host a 2 win Penns Valley this week in a must win to hold onto the top seed.

2. Bedford 8-1 @ Forest Hills

Bedford calmly took care of Cambria Heights and moved to 8-1. With a lot of the LHAC attention on Somerset and Guilfoyle, Bedford quietly has put together a very good season.  They will look to go into Sidman and take down a tough Forest Hills team.

3. Tyrone  8-1 @ Chestnut Ridge

Tyrone easily rolled over Penns Valley 41-7. The Golden Eagles have outscored the past two opponents 102-7 after falling to Clearfield.  They will travel to Chestnut Ridge in a very big game for both sides.  Ridge is a good football team, and one Tyrone should not take lighly.

4. Chestnut Ridge 8-1 Tyrone

The Lions have looked good in recent weeks and are currently riding a 7 game winning streak. They have a big opportunity on Friday night with a very good Tyrone team to town.  With the common opponent factor, it should be a good game.

5. Juniata 8-1 @ Williams Valley

Juniata has scored 45 or more points in each of their past three games, and they will look to carry that momentum into this week. Williams Valley is a 6-3 team, and should provide a test.

D 5-6-8-9 AAA

1. Somerset 9-0  Bishop Guilfoyle

Somerset has beaten everything that has come in their path this season. They are a team on a mission, and they have one more challenge before the playoffs, and that's fellow undefeated Bishop Guilfoyle.  The Marauders have similar personnel and play the same kind of game, and it will be a good one Friday night.

2. Clearfield 7-2 Punxsutawney

In a bit of an odd setup, Clearfield and Punxsy square off for the District 9 AAA championship before they enter the sudregional playoffs. Clearfield should be able to handle them.

3. Johnstown 6-3 Cambria Heights

After a nice little three game winning streak for Johnstown, it came crashing down last week with a 42-3 loss to Bishop Guilfoyle. Still, the Trojans have played well this year, and they have doubled up their win total from last season. They should beat Heights and be 7-3 heading into playoffs.
